National Reach

Salma has reach of all 34 provinces of Afghanistan. Our teams of experienced researchers can access some of the most remote and often insecure areas of each province

Our team all speak English, Dari, and Pashto

Availability

The team at Salma Consulting is available for immediate mobilisation: field teams can be mobilised within a 48-hour window should an emergency or ad-hoc assessments need to be completed

Unlike many organisations at this time, the technical and implementation team at Salma is all based in Afghanistan

Given the extensive experience and qualifications of our data collection teams, they can be deployed for data collection assessments without having to come to Kabul for training. Any training for ad-hoc studies or immediate studies can be provided remotely

Experience and Capacity of Data Collection Teams

All data collectors are local to the province in which they operate, this ensures greater safeguarding practices and allows for a more contextualised approach to data collection. Teams have extensive networks across their provinces with local authorities, and understand the contextual nuances about accessing marginalised communities and any differences in socio-cultural norms.he text and make it your own.

All supervisors have a minimum of 5 years of experience in managing fieldwork at a provincial level.

All data collectors have a minimum of high school education (including women) and supervisors have a university degree

At least 70% of data collectors have been previously trained on data collection practices with the most vulnerable communities, including observations, collection, review and recording of administrative information

Supervisors are well-known and connected across their provinces to ensure the necessary permissions and appropriate access to communities.

All data collectors have been extensively trained in safeguarding and research ethics practices, including doing no harm, reporting mechanisms, engaging with children and persons with disabilities, and adjusting interviews to ensure active participation and access

The data collection teams are made up of both male and female researchers, who are trained in quantitative and qualitative data collection. All have worked on projects that previously engaged with marginalised populations, including women, children, persons with disabilities, IDPs, returnees, and host communities, notably beneficiaries of humanitarian responses and economic-focused interventions
